Javon Francis: A Calabar lion in the games of the XXXI Olympiad Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2016

Jamaica’s medal tally stands at 11 with 6 Golds 3 Silver and 2 Bronze. Javon Francis, Calabar Old Boy made his contribution to this tally by anchoring the men’s 4x400 in superb style, on the final day of Track and Field and bringing home the silver in the competition. He and his team mates, Fitzroy Dunkley, Nathon Allen and Peter Matthews finished the race behind the United States in 2:58.16 . This is the fourth fastest time ever run by a Jamaican quartet.

Javon, affectionately called “Donkey Man” won the heat before he went on to take the silver. He also entered the 400m semifinals but failed to reach the finals as he finish fifth. This is Javon’s first Olympics but with the determination he continues to display, we have no doubt that he will continue to be successful in his athletic career.

Javon who carried the national flag at the closing ceremony join’s the long list of Calabar Old Boys who have represented us well at the Olympics.
